FBI Officially Opens Portland Field Office

Portland – Federal and local officials celebrated the opening of the new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Portland Field Office today at a ribbon cutting ceremony.  Representatives from the FBI, the U.S. General Services Administration, the Port of Portland, the Portland Development Commission, and the Molasky Group of Companies were on hand to mark the occasion.

The new 134,159 square foot facility, located at 9109 NE Cascades Parkway, consolidates most of FBI’s Portland operations and personnel under one roof.

"This new state-of-the-art facility is a great addition to the law enforcement community of Portland,” said Gregory Fowler, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Oregon. "We can now work more efficiently and effectively having all our agents and resources in one central location with many improvements including tighter security and upgraded technology. This new building will also accommodate more room for our task forces and will give our employees and law enforcement partners added support and efficiency."

The facility was developed and is owned by the Molasky Group of Companies of Las Vegas, Nevada. It was designed by HGA Architects and Engineers of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and built by Skanska USA Building of Portland, Oregon. The Molasky Group of Companies owns three additional FBI facilities, including Portland, and a fourth is under construction in San Diego.  GSA leases the property on behalf of the federal government.

“Helping agencies such as the FBI fulfill their mission is our highest priority,” said GSA Regional Administrator George Northcroft.  “They now have a secure, world-class facility that meets their needs and the region for years to come.”

The Port of Portland and the Portland Development Commission were instrumental in helping GSA find the Cascades Parkway location.  Sales proceeds from the transaction created revenue for the Airport Way Urban Renewal Area (URA) to support ongoing economic development programs in the URA, including small business loans for business expansions, remodeling and new construction.

The 16-month construction project, started in December 2010, was substantially completed in March 2012.  More than 1,000 different craftsmen and craftswomen cycled through the project, with an average of about 150 workers on site daily.  More than 85 percent of the craft labor on the project came from the Portland area.

The building is required to earn a minimum of LEED Silver certification; however, the Molasky Group of Companies has applied for and expects to achieve LEED Gold.
