NOAA FISHERIES ALLOCATES $85,000 TO GUAM CUSTOMS FOR FISHERIES ENFORCEMENT

On October 10, 2003, the Customs and Quarantine Agency received USD$85,000 from the National Marine Fisheries Service's (NOAA Fisheries) Office for Law Enforcement (OLE). These monies are part of a joint enforcement agreement (JEA) between agencies to increase enforcement of federal fisheries regulations at sea, alongside the dock, and on land. By providing funds to state and territorial agencies, NOAA fisheries greatly broadens the reach of its fisheries enforcement capabilities in protecting and preseverving our nation's living marine resources. Furthermore, this grant money will increase the Maritime Interdiction Task Force personnel, the ability to purchase new equipment, allow preventative maintenance on the boat and equipment, and provide training and develop an effective program to increase enforcement of federal fisheries regulations at sea, alongside the dock, and on land.
