Disability Determination Process (DDP) Small Grant Program Off to a Quick Start

We awarded the DDP grant in September 2011 to Policy Research Inc. (PRI).   PRI serves as the program manager for this grant, and as such, they announce the funding cycle, review submitted proposals, award and administer the $10,000 stipends to each successful graduate student, and monitor the research under this program.  Research projects in this 5-year grant program focus on improvement of the disability determination process.

On March 13, 2012, we issued a press release announcing the first round of stipend awards to eight graduate student researchers from across the country.  These projects are in three categories: compassionate allowances and wounded warriors, homelessness and SSI, and disability enrollment.  The Commissioner of Social Security sent each researcher a letter recognizing his or her achievement.  At the same time, PRI released a request for applications for the second round of research proposals.  You can find more information about currently funded projects and application information at PRI’s website:  http://ddp.policyresearchinc.org.

New Public-Use File for the National Survey of SSI Children and Families

We have posted a new version of the National Survey of SSI Children and Families.  This survey, conducted in 2001 and 2002, includes information on over 8,000 children who were receiving, had received, or were applying for SSI.   We originally released a public-use file but withdrew it from public distribution to ensure compliance with current disclosure policies.  Although we found no disclosure issues, we no longer support the previous file.  All users should use the new data files and documentation for analysis.
