PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- Military community hopefuls took a shot at being the next Rising Star during auditions Sept. 14 at the Hobson Student Activities Center here.
The event was the second of three elimination rounds to determine the finalists for the Presidio's 2012 Rising Star musical talent competition.
The last audition is 8 p.m. Sept. 28; finals are scheduled for 8 p.m. Oct. 12. All events take place at the Hobson Center. Community members are encouraged to attend each night and show their support for their favorite performer.
Operation Rising Star is an annual "American Idol" style singing contest for U.S. military personnel, their family members and DOD civilians.
The first-place winner at the local level will receive a $500 gift card and the chance to compete in the Army-level Operation Rising Star event.
The 2012 Army-wide Operation Rising Star finals will be held in San Antonio, Texas, and will be broadcast on the Pentagon Channel.
The grand-prize winner receives an all-expense paid trip to Hollywood for a three-day professional recording studio experience, which includes a three-song demo compact disc and $1,000 in spending money.
