COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.---Pikes Peak area military spouses were treated to a day of information and pampering May 13 at the Southeast Family Center YMCA.
The day is a joint collaboration between Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, the U.S. Air Force Academy and Fort Carson, along with vendors from the military and the community.
Local cosmetology schools offered free haircuts, manicures and styling, while skin care suggestions were given by Mary Kay representatives. Massages were offered by local businesses. Informative booths included the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Mountain Post Wellness Center and Army Community Service. A stamping booth was available, a book exchange, as well as free lunch.
"I got a DVD from ACS about deployments to help my kids," said Stacy Williams.
One booth handed out seedlings for spouses to get plants growing. There was also an opportunity at winning door prizes, such as gift cards. Other booths were set up to provide information to spouses about furthering their education.
Fitness and wellness centers from different installations were on hand to promote healthy living for military Families.
"This was my first time attending an event like this and I think the attendance was great," said Denise Acevedo, health promotions coordinator, Mountain Post Wellness Center.
More than 300 spouses for the event attended the event, which has been offered for nine years.
"Anything we can do to give back to the spouses is why we're here," said E.D. Rucker, Southeast YMCA military outreach coordinator. "They truly are the backbone for servicemembers."
