Madigan Healthcare System has been awarded the Partner for Change, With Distinction Award from Practice Greenhealth. Madigan received the award May 12 at the CleanMed Conference in Baltimore. The Partner for Change, With Distinction Award recognizes health care facilities that have achieved improvements in their mercury elimination, waste reduction and pollution prevention programs. This includes at least 15 percent recycling, an extensive sustainability program and a show of leadership in the local community and/or in the health care sector.

Team Young Range players can now call themselves two-time champions. After winning the Commander's Cup Preseason Volleyball Championship and remaining undefeated during the season, the squad won the Commander's Cup Postseason Volleyball Championship May 13, defeating the Jungle Cats in a best two-of-three match at Smith Fitness Center. The Jungle Cats of 11th Engineer Battalion got off to a quick start in the first set, leading 13-5. Team Young Range of 2nd Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment, closed the gap to 21-20, but after a failed spike out of bounds, the Jungle Cats took the serve to seal the win 25-20. After Team Young Range was down, coach Fatu Iaulualo gave the team words of encouragement.

The Reverse Sprint Triathlon is back. The annual event, which includes a 5K run, 20K bike ride and a 550-meter swim, is set for June 6, beginning at the Family Entertainment Center on Eckel Street. "The Reverse Sprint Triathlon is challenging," said Kelly Pulliam, race director. "You can go out and run all of these events separately on any given day, but when you put them together, it's more difficult. The most challenging part of it is that it's nonstop. SPC Robert Nuss captured three medals and SPC Chris Strickland added a fourth to lead the Fort Benning contingent at the inaugural Warrior Games, held May 10-14 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 410th Contracting Support Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, recently hosted members of the Brazilian Army, providing a glimpse of the various contracting officers' roles and responsibilities within their command. Their visit to the 410th began with Col. Ted Harrison, 410th CSB commander, providing an overview of the U. S. Army Acquisition Corps, an explanation of how the U. S. Army trains its military and civilian acquisition officers, Army contracting force structure and the 410th CSB and its capabilities. Harrison also explained to the Brazilian officers, the historical role contracting has played in meeting the needs of the United States military while utilizing a smaller uniformed military force, citing actions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As a Viper at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Staff Sgt. Adam Mancini is tasked with telling the Soldier story by covering operations on the battlefield (or training field in the case of JMRC) to provide commanders a visual record of a unit's operations. After years of documenting the tasks of other Soldiers, Mancini's own actions have garnered him recognition. Of more than 2,200 photos submitted for the Department of Defense Military Photographer of the Year Competition, Mancini placed second in the Combat Documentation category with a photo he took of Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
