BAMAKO, Mali – Army Sgt. Kristopher Baker bestows a medal to the third place winner of the girls relay during the Youth Peace Games here Sept. 20, 2006. The games were designed to bring together more than 450 youths from the major southern Malian cities to compete in a variety of sporting events. The athletes were identified as future civic leaders and were hand-picked by their local city leaders to participate in the games. In addition to the games, the youths participated in classes and seminars on leadership, tolerance, anti-extremism and cooperation led by local and American Olympic athletes and local leaders.
