GSA Advantage! Enhancements Lead to Record $558 Million Sales

WASHINGTON — GSA Advantage!, which serves as the Federal government’s online shopping and ordering system, posted record sales in fiscal year 2008.  System improvements led to ease of use for customers, new product and service offerings, and a greater number of products and services available. These improvements led to a record $558 million in sales volume for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, a 24 percent increase over FY07 figures.

GSA Advantage provides access to thousands of contractors and millions of supplies (products) and services. For over 12 years, GSA Advantage has been a reliable and proven one-stop online resource for thousands of Federal employees worldwide. GSA Advantage offers the most comprehensive selection of approved products and services from GSA contracts. GSA Advantage allows customers to tailor their searches specifically for products and services provided by small-, minority-, veteran-, and women-owned businesses.

In FY08, GSA launched a new version of GSA Advantage, which allows state and local government personnel to order cooperative purchasing and disaster recovery products.

GSA also launched a new version of e-Buy during the past fiscal year. GSA's e-Buy is an electronic Request for Quote (RFQ)/Request for Proposal (RFP) system designed to allow Federal buyers to request information, find sources, and prepare RFQs/RFPs online, for millions of services and products offered through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) and Governmentwide Acquisition Contracts (GWACs).

Federal buyers can use e-Buy to obtain quotes or proposals for services, large quantity purchases, big ticket items, and purchases with complex requirements.

“GSA is the only federal agency whose sole purpose is to help government acquire the products and services needed to succeed in their missions,” said Ed O’Hare, Chief Information Officer for GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service. “Our dedicated GSA team strives for exceptional customer service and delivers innovation and value – and it shows in our results. I’m proud that GSA e-systems such as GSA Advantage promote transparency, accessibility and efficiency.”

Other noteworthy GSA Advantage FY08 accomplishments include launching a new virtual store for the U.S. Marine Corps and Department of Homeland Security.  The Advantage Spend Analysis Program (ASAP), a centralized reporting tool designed to give authorized users access to sales and statistical data for GSA Advantage, virtual stores and e-Buy, was made available to customers this past July.
