Description of Duties
The incumbent will perform scientific investigations, studies, and projects which require state-of-the-art
knowledge in methodologies for assessing microbiological and/or chemical hazards in food. The studies and projects completed
will contribute to the effectiveness of agency programs, and will be used to support risk assessments of
microbiological and/or chemical hazards in food and help form the basis for key decisions concerning public health matters
relative to meat, poultry and egg product policies and inspection programs. The candidates may also develop and publish new
techniques and methods that facilitate food safety risk assessment.
Qualification Requirements
- A doctoral degree in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate
to the work of the position (such as public health, toxicology, microbiology, biostatistics, or related
disciplines).
- Specialized knowledge or education in risk and exposure assessment or modeling is highly desirable.
- Note: Candidates must have received their doctoral degree within the last 3 years.
Promotion Potential
GS-13, future promotion depends on incumbent's demonstrated performance and ability to assume additional responsibility.
