MEDLARS® Management Section (MMS)
The primary focus of MMS is database development, management, testing and quality assurance to foster expanded access to health information for health professionals and the general public.
MMS staff collaborate with National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), Office of Computing and Communications Systems (OCCS) and Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC) staff to develop, test and support PubMed® and the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), and provide customer service, training and user documentation for these and other NLM systems.
MMS staff are responsible for the following:
Training
Distance Education
Distance education resources provided by the NLM.
Classroom Training
Register for classes using the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Web site.
Licensing / Data Distribution
Leasing Data from the National Library of Medicine
Lease MEDLINE/PubMed journal citations; bibliographic records from the NLM catalog; toxicological, chemical or directory data; or UMLS Knowledge Sources.
Unified Medical Language System® (UMLS®)
Information about and access to the UMLS resources, including the Metathesaurus®, the Semantic Network, SPECIALIST Lexicon and lexical tools and MetamorphoSys, and links to UMLS Terminology Services (UTS) including Metathesaurus and SNOMED CT® Browsers.
