Last week, the National Youth Leadership Council hosted a public briefing to discuss how the Guilford County school district in Greensboro, North Carolina achieved high levels of academic success by implementing a character development and service-learning initiative. Three years after the initiative began the district has reduced the number of low-performing schools from ten to zero.

This article profiles Farnsworth Aerospace PreK-8 Magnet, one of the 25 schools selected to receive funding as part of the three-year Generator Go Green Initiative led by NYLC. A summary report of from the first two years of the program showed the promise of service-learning as an inquiry-oriented method of instruction. In both years, quality of the service-learning experience significantly predicted the extent of change in students’ environmental attitudes, efficacy, and behavior.

NYLC Meets Accountability Standards

The National Youth Leadership Council is pleased to announce it has met the Charities Review Council’s Accountability Standards for nonprofits.

The Charities Review Council is an independent resource for people who make contributions to support nonprofit organizations. They are dedicated to empowering donors in making informed and thoughtful giving decisions. Minnesota is currently the only state that has such an independent resource for donors.
