PEACHTREE CITY, GA — June 26, 2008 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Ms. Melissa Hayes, principal of Maxwell AFB Elementary School, and Mr. Brian Perry, Assistant Principal of Maxwell, will add the oversight of Robins AFB (GA.) Elementary School in the Georgia/Alabama District. The Robins Elementary post was recently vacated when Mr. Bill Rose retired.

“They are both outstanding educators – committed to providing all children the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the 21st Century world of work,” said Dr. Dell McMullen, Georgia/Alabama District superintendent. “With Melissa and Brian at the helm, I am confident that Maxwell and Robins children will get a top notch education, and Air Force families at both bases will get the care and support they deserve.” McMullen added that Hayes will spend the majority of her time at Maxwell and Perry will spend most of his time at Robins; however, they will work as a team, serving both schools.

Hayes has served as Maxwell principal for two years and prior to that was principal at Dexter Elementary School at Fort Benning, Ga. She also was a Reading Recovery teacher at Benning and Robins. She taught in Decatur, Ga., and in Alabama for 17 years prior to coming to DoDEA. Prior to being named assistant principal at Maxwell, Perry served as an Educational Technologist and a physical education teacher.
