The Faces of HBV in America
Sept 24 – “With the number of new [HBV] infections remaining steady despite the availability of a vaccine, and the significant rise of primary liver cancer in the USA, it is imperative that hepatitis B be prioritized as an important public health concern,” according to a published statement from the Hepatitis B Foundation. The opportunity exists to reduce the prevalence of chronic HBV in the US with more rigorous screening and vaccination, particularly in certain groups that are well defined. Read more.

Switching to Tenofovir Suppresses Hepatitis B in HIV/HBV Co-infected People
Sept 24 – People with HIV and hepatitis B virus co-infection, who substituted tenofovir for zidovudine (Retrovir) or abacavir (Ziagen) in their antiretroviral regimen, saw a reduction in hepatitis B viral load despite HBV being resistant to lamivudine, according to a poster presented at ICAAC 2012.
