CIVIL DIVISION
The Civil Division is responsible for defending United States' interests, and those of United States employees sued for actions taken within the scope of their employment, in all civil litigation matters, including but not limited to Federal Tort Claims, Employment Discrimination, Environmental Litigation, Social Security, Bankruptcy and Land Condemnation litigation. In addition, the Civil Division is responsible for affirmative civil enforcement seeking recovery of civil penalties and damages under the False Claims Act, as well as recovery of debts owed to the United States through the Financial Litigation Unit. The Chief of the Civil Division is Kevin Traskos. Amy Padden is the Deputy Chief of the Civil Division.
