Today marks 1,000 days since the disappearance of American citizen Robert Levinson, who went missing on March 9, 2007 during a business trip to Kish Island, Iran.
The United States calls on the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to assist in providing any information on Mr. Levinson’s whereabouts and in ensuring his prompt and safe return to his family in the United States.
Over the last 1,000 days, Mr. Levinson’s children have been without news on their father’s whereabouts, even after Mrs. Levinson travelled to Iran in December 2007 to inquire about her husband’s disappearance. While Iranian authorities promised to share information about their investigation, that promise has yet to be fulfilled.
We continue to call on Iran to stand by its commitment of providing full details about their investigation both to the Levinson family and to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, which represents U.S. interests in the absence of normal diplomatic relations.
Mr. Levinson’s case remains a priority for the United States, as does resolving the cases of other American citizens who are unjustly detained in Iran: Joshua Fattal, Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd, Kian Tajbakhsh, and Reza Taghavi.
