Dawn Veatch became Director, Western Hemisphere on August 16, 2009. The Office is responsible for coordinating all Federal Aviation Administration efforts in Canada, Mexico and all countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean. It also is responsible for advancing the nation's international aviation leadership in that large region. She reports directly to the Assistant Administrator for International Aviation.

Ms. Veatch has more than 25 years of experience in FAA's Flight Standards Service. Prior to becoming Director, Ms. Veatch served as Division Manager for the Flight Standards Service Southern Region, the largest FAA Flight Standards Division comprised of 21 field offices and nearly 900 employees. In this capacity, she had jurisdiction over states in the southeast, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, South and Central America and was responsible for the safety oversight of 32 countries, and over 20 air carriers, 700 repair stations, and 300 air taxis.

As the Deputy Division Manager for more than five years, Ms. Veatch spearheaded the FAA CARICOM technical assistance program, which resulted in placing several States in the FAA International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program Category 1 status.

Ms. Veatch's international experience also includes serving as the London International Field Office Manager, (IFO). In this capacity, she had responsibility for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Iceland. These responsibilities included the certificate management of more than 170 US repair stations. During her tenure, she facilitated the signing of the Bi-lateral Aviation Safety Agreement, Maintenance Implementation Plan (BASA MIP) with Ireland.

Ms. Veatch is a pilot and flight instructor with extensive experience. Prior to her FAA career, she served as Pilot-in-Command of fire-firing missions, personal pilot for two Secretaries of Interior, and provided high level secured-transportation with the U.S. Secret Service. Ms. Veatch holds an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with single and multi-engine, single engine sea and a type rating in Douglas DC-9 airplanes; and a Flight Instructor Certificate for airplane single, multi-engine and instrument rating.

Ms. Veatch is married to Mr. Raymond Veatch, an FAA Attorney, and has three daughters.
