  • MEDICAID AND CHIP PAYMENT AND ACCESS COMMISSION (MACPAC) RELEASES JUNE 2012 REPORT TO THE CONGRESS ON MEDICAID AND CHIP
    • Press Release: Today the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) released its June 2012 Report to the Congress on Medicaid and CHIP. Medicaid is among the nation’s largest purchasers of health care, spending $432 billion in fiscal year 2011 to meet the health care and long-term services and supports (LTSS) needs of an estimated 70 million enrollees. In the same year, CHIP expenditures were nearly $12 billion on behalf of more than 8 million children. Advancing the Commission’s analytic work on Medicaid and CHIP in the context of the overall health care system, this Report highlights the role of Medicaid and CHIP as purchasers of health care services and highlights the importance of access measures as a tool for monitoring and improving program performance for program beneficiaries.

The Commission makes recommendations in this Report in two key areas: to advance innovative approaches to improving care, controlling costs, and updating quality measurement for the 9.1 million persons under age 65 qualifying for Medicaid on the basis of a disability; and to improve federal and state program integrity efforts in the Medicaid program.
