Tokyo, July, 1956: World War II hero-turned-actor Audie Murphy is dressed as a correspondent for "Yank" magazine during the filming of "Joe Butterfly," a comedy about U.S. soldiers in Japan during the postwar occupation. Murphy was the United States' most-decorated soldier in World War II, having received 23 military awards including the Medal of Honor. He was born 88 years ago today, on June 20, 1924, and died in a plane crash in 1971.
