The Technology Transfer Program is coordinated by the Office of Research and Technology Applications, or ORTA, at Fermilab.

Fermilab is a fundamental research laboratory with a well-defined mission in particle physics. Fermilab research does not actively pursue practical applications. Yet the technology developed for the scientific program can lead to important spin-offs. Fermilab has a broad-spectrum program in place to stimulate technology transfer of technologies developed for scientific research. This program includes the ORTA office within the Directorate and a licensing program. Fermilab is also actively involved with state and local activities to foster technology transfer and economic development.

Accelerators for America's Future
More than 30,000 particle accelerators are in operation around the world. They get used by hospitals to treat cancer, industry to manufacture such items as radial tires and national laboratories to conduct fundamental research.
