Thanks to the health care law, women are getting greater control over their health care. Effective August 1, eight prevention-related health services for women are covered without cost sharing.
Preventive services can help you avoid illness and improve your health. The benefits are available for women in new health plans, beginning with the first plan year that renews on or after August 1, 2012.
The eight new prevention-related services include:

- FDA-approved contraceptive methods, and contraceptive education and counseling
- Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling
- HPV DNA testing, for women 30 or older
- Sexually transmitted infections counseling for sexually-active women
- HIV screening and counseling for sexually-active women
