Thumbnail preview ANNOTATION: The predictive validities of the Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R) and the Correctional Offender Management Profiling for Alternative Sanctions (COMPAS) actuarial risk-needs assessment tools are examined. Results are shown for: offense history, parole history, and risk-needs tool scores by race; participant rearrest within 12 months of release; racial difference in rearrest within 12 months of release; LSI-R predicted recidivism and actual rearrest; COMPAS predicted recidivism and actual rearrest; and criminological variables predicted recidivism and actual rearrest. The LSI-R and COMPAS are both valid tools for predicting recidivism. Prior juvenile and adult arrests, adult convictions, and parole violations are strongly related to future reoffending.
