Capt. John Feeney

Capt. John Feeney, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was designated a Naval Flight Officer soon thereafter.

He holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and a Master of Business Administration from New Hampshire College.

During his operational tours, Feeney was assigned to Patrol Squadron Special Unit ONE and TWO (VPU-1 and VPU-2), and Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FIVE (VQ-5). He deployed in support of Operations Desert Storm, Southern Watch and Allied Force. Feeney also served as the ES-3A Shadow detachment operations officer, Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) officer and mission commander embarked on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72).

Feeney returned to VPU-1 as executive officer and assumed command in 2006. His squadron provided combat support to U.S. and allied forces engaged in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and his command was awarded the Battle E and the Aircraft Maintenance Golden Wrench awards.

Feeney's shore assignments include carrier air wing tactics instructor at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, assistant program manager for EP-3, VPU and Aerial Common Sensor (ACS) training systems for Naval Aviation Training Systems (PMA-205) and deputy program manager for electronic warfare/special mission aircraft Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (PMA-290). Feeney assumed command of Naval Aviation Training Systems (PMA-205) in July 2010. 

Feeney has accumulated more than 3,900 flight hours and 165 carrier landings. His awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medal and various other campaign and unit commendations.
