Boston...Worcester man was convicted late yesterday in federal court of possessing videos of child pornography.
Paul V. Burdulis, 42, was convicted by a jury sitting in Worcester, of possession of child pornography. United States District Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV scheduled sentencing for June 28, 2012. Burdulis faces up to 20 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
During the three-day trial, the evidence proved that the Auburn Police Department opened an investigation of Burdulis, after a complaint that he followed four 13 year-old boys at Pakachoag golf course, made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature to one of the boys, and handed the boy a note with Burdulis’ phone number and email address, asking the boy to call him. A detective later posed as one of the four boys and contacted the email address. Burdulis responded and began corresponding by email with the undercover detective, believing he was the 13 year old boy. In the emails, Burdulis engaged in conversations regarding sex and sent the undercover photographs, including a photograph of a naked man. As a result of the email correspondence, Auburn detectives obtained a warrant to arrest Burdulis on state charges of enticement of a minor and dissemination of matter harmful to a minor.
During a court authorized search of Burdulis’ apartment at 62 Westminster Street in Worcester in May 2009, a computer thumb drive that contained images and videos was recovered. A forensic examination of the thumb drive revealed a number of videos, one longer than an hour and 20 minutes, of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
State charges against Burdulis are still pending in Worcester Superior Court.
