Original equipment manufacturers (OEMS) of long-haul tractors and trailers can ask to have their equipment evaluated by EPA to assess whether it meets certain environmental and efficiency specifications established by SmartWay.
Tractors and trailers that meet SmartWay's specifications are eligible to use a EPA-designated SmartWay logo and are known for their efficiency and improved environmental performance.

For other tractor/trailer components, EPA uses test procedures to verify that fuel savings and emissions benefits match equipment manufacturers claims.
SmartWay Opportunities for Equipment ManufacturersEPA has determined that certain idling reduction, aerodynamic, retrofit and tire technologies provide verifiable fuel saving and/or emission reducing benefits when used properly in their designed applications.
