How old are U.S. power plants?

About 530 gigawatts (51% of all generating capacity) were at least 30 years old at the end of 2010. Most gas-fired and wind generation capacity is less than 10 years old, while most coal-fired and hydropower capacity is 30 years or older.  Nearly all nuclear reactors are over 20 years old and about half are over 30.
