The training that Army Reserve 1st Lt. Bryce Matson receives as a civil affairs officer complements his civilian job at the Department of Homeland Security. In both positions, Matson must establish relationships with communities, interact with civilians and reduce threats.
Members of the Army Reserve are able to train close to home while maintaining their civilian careers. They are paid for time spent training and deployed, and they are also eligible for low-cost health and life insurance.
