Founded in 1922, the United States Army Band known as “Pershing’s Own” is the premier musical organization of the United States Army. There are currently nine official performing ensembles in the unit: Pershing’s Own, the U.S. Army Blues, the U.S. Army Brass Quintet, the U.S. Army Ceremonial Band, the U.S. Army Chorus, the U.S. Army Concert Band, the U.S. Army Band Downrange, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets and the U.S. Army Strings.
Music is an important part of military tradition, used to inspire, celebrate and honor in ceremonies throughout the year. This is a competitive career path and an audition is required to qualify. But for individuals with a passion for music and country, there are few jobs with a mission more rewarding than that of the Army Bands:
“Army Bands provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations to instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad.”
