RFS2 EMTS Informational Data
The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS1) program was expanded under the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007. As of July 1, 2010, the RFS2 regulations require renewable fuel producers and importers, gasoline and diesel refiners, renewable fuel exporters, Renewable Identification Number (RIN) owners, and any other RFS2 regulated party to submit all RIN generation information and other RIN transactions to EPA Moderated Transaction System (EMTS). Using data generated from EMTS, EPA provides aggregated monthly data on RIN generation and renewable fuel volume production for specific fuel categories.
The informational data presented in the tables below are designed to be used by RFS2 regulated parties. Those who require further explanation to understand the data should review the RFS2 regulations.
Quick Reference Information
D-Code (D#) identifies the renewable fuel standard category for a particular fuel based on lifecycle analysis. For more information on how D codes apply to RINs, see the RFS2 regulations:40 CFR 80.1426.
Equivalence Value (EV) is the number used to determine how many RINs shall be generated for each gallon of renewable fuel. For more information on equivalence values, see the RFS2 regulations: 40 CFR 80.1415.
Notes: The information presented below may change as it reflects a snapshot of data in the EMTS:
- may change as it reflects a snapshot of data in the EMTS,
- has been updated to reflect production date captured in EMTS. Previously, the data presented reflected transaction completed date, and
- has been updated to reflect retirements of RINs for volume corrections and invalid RINs as identified by the renewable fuel producer as invalid.
