Partnership Overview:
This OSHA Strategic Partnership (OSP) provides a means to improving worker
safety practices, increasing the level of formal worker safety training, and
enhancing worker participation in the safety and health management system
development and implementation process.
Partnership Goals:
- Within three years from the implementation date of the OSP, the Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR)
for a participant will be reduced by 30 percent when compared to the three-year average TCIR on the
NRMCA annual safety benchmarking survey
- Increase the number of Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) producers who have implemented formal safety
and health management systems
- Decrease OSHA penalties and worker compensation costs for companies that participate in
the OSP
- Increase the number of ready mixed concrete workers who successfully complete the OSHA 10-hour
and 30-hour training courses
- Increase safety activities in the workplace for OSP participants
Partnership Objective:
- The OSP will use a tiered system to recognize the level of safety and health performance
of the OSP participants and encourage continual improvement in safety and health
Partnership Results:
- The OSP attained a total case incidence rate 30 percent below the NRMCA three-year standard
benchmarking survey from calendar year 2005; this rate was also below the Bureau of Labor Statistics’
(BLS) national average for this industry
- 410 workers received safety training
- 396 workers received driver wellness education
- The OSP developed the “Rollover Prevention Training Program” and distributed to training
materials to the 51 OSP participants which increased the total number of safety contacts regarding
the prevention of rollovers to 1,600
