On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Angola on the 36th anniversary of your independence this November 11.
During my trip to Angola two years ago, I saw first-hand the extraordinary recovery and economic progress your country has made since the end of the civil war. Today, our two countries are building on that progress as strategic partners based on mutual respect and interest. We look forward to working with you even more as you strengthen democratic governance, improve the rule of law and promote more opportunities for all Angolans.
As you celebrate this special day with family and loved ones, know that the United States is a partner and friend. We are committed to this relationship and to a brighter future for all Angolans.
