Obama Trade Official Signs New Agreement with Miami Community to Increase Exports, Support Local Jobs
MIAMI – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez joined representatives from eight Miami business and governmental organizations today at the Port of Miami to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the local trade promotion partners and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) to expand the export of Miami goods and services to international markets.
“Our partnerships are built on common interests and goals: a shared belief that American-made products are the best in the world; a shared commitment to helping businesses here sell their products and services in markets across the globe; and a shared desire to boost U.S. exports to support American jobs and help fuel Miami’s economy,” said Sánchez. “Today’s agreement will go a long way in achieving our goals with a new kind of partnership that will lead to increased export opportunities and enhanced support for Miami businesses and the Floridians they employ.”
The MOA is part of the ITA’s Export Promotion Partnership initiative which provides ITA and local partners the opportunity to work together in an effort to increase export awareness among the Miami business community. This agreement will formalize ITA’s existing work and relationships and help connect local partners to federal resources. It will also initiate cross-trainings of respective staff members so that Florida companies receive coordinated, efficient assistance.
The MOA was signed by representatives of the International Trade Administration, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Miami, the World Trade Center of Miami, the Florida Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association, the Economic Development & International Trade Unit for Miami Dade County, the Florida Foreign Trade Association, Miami Free Zone and the Florida International Bankers Association.
The signing ceremony took place in conjunction with ITA’s Western Hemisphere Senior Commercial Officers Conference. The Conference is organized by ITA and draws over 200 participants who are exporting U.S. goods to the Western Hemisphere.
A Florida native, Sánchez’s arrival in Miami followed his recent participation in the Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia and the World Economic Forum in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
