On Monday, May 7, 2012, the House is scheduled to consider H. Con. Res. 117, a bill to authorize the use of the Capitol Grounds for the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service, under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for approval.  The bill was introduced on April 19, 2012, by Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) and referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which took no official action on the bill.

The bill would authorize the use of the Capitol Grounds for the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on May 15, 2012, in order to honor the law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty during 2011.  The event will be free of charge, open to the public, and will be arranged so as not to interfere with the needs of Congress.
