International Affairs

Treasury's Office of International Affairs protects and supports U.S. economic prosperity by strengthening the external environment for U.S. growth, preventing and mitigating global financial instability, and managing key global challenges.

The Office of International Affairs is led by Under Secretary Lael Brainard, who serves as the principal policy advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on international economic matters.  In this position, Under Secretary Brainard advances the Administration's agenda of strengthening U.S. leadership in the global economy to foster growth, create economic opportunities for Americans, and address transnational economic challenges, including development and climate change.

Assistant Secretaries Charles Collyns and Marisa Lago help manage the international portfolio.  Assistant Secretary Collyns supports Treasury's work on international monetary policy, international financial institutions, coordination with the G-7/8 and G-20, and regional and bilateral economic issues.  Assistant Secretary Lago leads Treasury's role on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, and also supports Treasury's portfolio on international financial services regulation, trade, banking and securities, development, technical assistance, and climate finance.
