Carbon Monoxide: Silent but deadly

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, carbon monoxide is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in the United States. Starting January 1, 2007, new state laws will require residents to have carbon monoxide detectors in their home. Some states include Illinois, New York, Minnesota, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Connecticut, to name a few. Other states will soon enact similar laws. Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning can happen within a matter of minutes and is responsible for over 500 deaths per year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
