The University Library has restricted access hours after 5:00 PM Mon- FRI , and after 12 noon on SAT and SUN. Users need to declare intention to use the Transportation Library to obtain access to the building.

Provide a description of your information collection:
One of the largest transportation libraries in the world, the Northwestern University Transportation Library has collections on transportation, law enforcement and police management, and environmental impact statements (EIS).? The transportation collection emphasizes current socioeconomic aspects, particularly management, operations, finance, planning, regulation and safety. ?All transportation modes--air, rail, water, highway, and pipeline--are represented; both U.S. and international publications are collected. ?Other aspects, such as technology and history, are covered selectively.? The law enforcement collection focuses on police administration and training, and traffic law enforcement. The environmental impact statement collection (ca. 52,000 volumes) include most paper copies of EIS's prepared under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.? All these resources support education and research programs for Northwestern?s Transportation Center, Center for Public Safety, Infrastructure Technology Institute, faculty and students, as well as, the national and worldwide transportation and law enforcement research communities.

What are the particular subject strengths of your collection?:
Collection depth in transportation topics (all modes); environmental impact statements; transportation companies annual reports. One of the Transportation Library?s most valuable resources is TRANweb, an on-line periodical index created and maintained by the library?s staff. TRANweb contains bibliographic and location information for over 300,000 items including magazine articles, conference papers, and other material on transportation and law enforcement topics. Coverage in the online file generally extends back to 1976. This periodical index is accessible at: <http://tran.library.northwestern.edu/>.
