Latent Print Technician 1

RECRUITMENT ONLY 

PURPOSE: Under immediate supervision, performs specific, well-defined activities requiring professional or scientific training that are designed to prepare incumbent for forensic science duties. These activities include processing material for latent prints and other laboratory examinations. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Receives, inventories and stores evidence according to quality assurance guidelines, to include chain-of-custody documentation as necessary.

• Performs routine analyses, tests, and examinations utilizing well defined methods and a variety of scientific tools, equipment, instrumentation and techniques to recover latent prints from a variety of materials. Works with senior technicians regarding the nature and extent of examinations to be conducted on materials and items of evidence.

• Analyzes developed and submitted friction ridge impressions. Determines value for photographic purposes.
  

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

• Prepares laboratory notes and related reports.

• Participates in training and other professional development opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Associate’s degree in Forensic Science, a Physical Science or a Life Science or equivalent experience (two years work experience equivalent to one year post-secondary education). Must successfully complete and pass established training requirements and competency test within the time period as set forth by the supported program. Prefer one year recent experience as a Latent Print Technician. Must have knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts and practices of scientific analysis. Must have knowledge of the characteristics and application of scientific equipment, instrumentation and tools to obtain data that is accurate and reliable. Must possess the ability to follow established detailed methods and procedures. Must have knowledge of examination techniques and skill to perform and analytical processes to obtain data that is accurate and reliable. Must possess the ability to follow established detailed methods and procedures. Knowledge of examination techniques and skill to perform and analytical processes to obtain technical information about items of evidence. Basic knowledge of laboratory scientific and administrative procedures. Ability to develop new skills through forensic training regarding laboratory protocols and processes to analyze routine materials and to coordinate the movement of evidence and related material. Must have demonstrated skill in oral and written communications. Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and skill in complying with safety requirements to perform functions safely. Must possess a Top Secret security clearance.
