Capilla del Sol, an Argentine baroque ensemble, performs sacred and secular music from the colonial era composed for Jesuit missions in Latin America.
The repertoire, characterized as "beautiful, astonishing" by one reviewer, was typically performed by indigenous choirs and instrumentalists. Drawing on the work of mu...sicologists who have helped bring this work to light, Capilla del Sol presents rarely heard music of the 17th and early 18th century for voice and instruments.
The group will also perform at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage on Tuesday, March 9, at 6:00 PM.
