The NACRA intranet is a secure DoD website that requires users to possess a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) or DoD Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate. If you currently do not have a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) or PKI Certificate below is information regarding how to obtain one.
What is DoD PKI?
DoD PKI provides the data integrity, user identification and authentication, user non-repudiation, data confidentiality, encryption and digital signature services for programs and application, which use the DoD networks. For more info, refer to: http://isase.disa.mil/pki/index.html
Who can obtain a DoD CAC or ECA certificate for DoD PKI?
All DoD employees (Military and Civilian), including DoD Contractors that are working on site (military/government facilities) or contractors working offsite using Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) are eligible to obtain a DoD CAC, which contains a DoD PKI certificate. If the contractor (or other users from industry or academia) does not work on site or with GFE they will need to obtain a DoD PKI Certificate from an approved External Certificate Authority (ECA) vendor.
What is an External Certificate Authority (ECA) certificate?
Approved ECA vendors provide digital certificates to the DoD's partners including DoD contractors, private industry, academia, foreign governments and foreign nationals conducting business with the U.S. government. An ECA certificate for DoD PKI can be used where the user is using their own personal equipment or working with non-government equipment/facilities such as corporate office locations, personal (home), or other locations.
ECA certificates are installed in a user's browser or email program and then can be used for such activities as: authenticating identity for access to DoD Web sites and applications, digitally signing documents, and encrypting e-mail.
