Albert Boerner Jr

Project Engineer (Accelerator & Operations Division)


Al Boerner started working at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1991 at the Cold Neutron Facility as the Assistant Group Leader in the High Flux Beam Reactor (HFBR). After the closure of the HFBR in 2000, Al joined the NSLS as a Project Engineer in the Operations Electrical Section. He currently heads the Electrical Distribution group in the for Accelerator & Operations Division as the Power Distribution Engineer and also serves as the NSLS Work Control Manager. Al graduated from Polytechnic University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Technology Management. Prior to joining BNL, he was a Nuclear Plant Engineer for General Electric Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where he was responsible for the operation of the DOE’s S1C Nuclear Reactor Prototype submarine and the training of naval personnel in the principles, operation, and maintenance of a Naval Nuclear Power Plant.

Al is responsible for the NSLS Electrical Infrastructure as well as serving as the NSLS Work Control Manager (WCM). He: maintains and upgrades the electrical systems for the NSLS complex and any electrical design changes; is responsible for all electrical work performed and manages the electricians for maintenance, operations, and project completion; provides engineering assistance, innovative approaches, and techniques for construction, maintenance, and operations to scientific and professional staff. As WCM, he: appoints NSLS Work Control Coordinators and assures they are trained to meet the requirements of the Work Planning and Control Subject Area; facilitates enhanced work planning meetings for the purpose of planning NSLS tasks/jobs/projects, and assists in assuring work is conducted according to approved plans.
