    ANNOTATION: The impact of boot camp programs (also called shock or intensive incarceration) on the criminal behavior of participating juvenile and adult offenders is investigated. Sections comprising this report include: abstract; background; objectives; methods; description of eligible studies; findings according to overall mean effects and analysis of moderator effects (e.g., method, offender, and boot camp program characteristics); and conclusion. "Correctional boot camps are neither as good as the advocates expect nor as bad as the critics hypothesize" (p. 18).
