(Left Photo) Marines with the Marine Corps Band New Orleans perform at Navy Pier here, Aug. 15. The performance was part of a three-year national celebration honoring the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner. The festivities began in New Orleans in April 2012 with other celebrations taking place in Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland and other cities. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans undertook a seven-week trip to Northern United States to perform during these events. The Marine Corps’ role in this event reinforces its naval character and showcases the Navy-Marine Corps team. The Marine band also joined Navy Band Great Lakes to perform during the War of 1812 Commemoration celebrations in Chicago.

Twenty-three Sailors from NOSC Fort Carson's Operational Health Support Unit (OHSU) 1914 and OHSU Bremerton units have been conducting their Annual Training (AT) with Special Forces-Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) 221, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) also located at Fort Carson. Throughout the training, ODA 221 has been instructing the Sailors on small arms and crew-served weapons qualifications and employment, convoy operations, military operations in urban terrain, combat lifesaver procedures and mission planning. The Sailors also received instruction on a three-day field training exercise where the Sailors have the opportunity plan and execute missions on their own. This AT simulates real-world missions in foreign countries similar to those ODA 221 face while they are in theater.
