Infant Mortality Awareness Month
September is National Infant Mortality Awareness Month! Please join NHSA as we Raise Awareness on Twitter @NatlHealthyStrt using hashtags #InfantMortality & #NIMAM. Learn more about the CELEBRATE DAY 366 Campaign and Baby Buggy Walk in the Park. Find additional resources and events on the Office of Minority Health website.
WESTSIDE HEALTHY START PROJECT
Event attendees received information on how to navigate managed care health plans in the Chicagoland community from several organizations. Mental health and substance abuse were on site to provide resources on how to access services within their community. The work to engage the men in the health of themselves and the community continue.
Ben Archer Health Center
The interactive event was constructed of participating agencies, organizations, businesses, and committees in the community acting as partners and sponsors. It was held at the Luna County Courthouse Park which is centrally located in Deming. Agencies, home visiting programs and providers spread the word on healthy living.
The Magnolia Project
The Magnolia Project received a mini grant from the National Healthy Start Association Dads Matter Initiative to teach men childrearing skills, as studies show child health drastically improves when an involved father learns about safe sleep, proper car seat installment, breastfeeding importance and more. Teams compete for a trophies in parenting events, but the most important win is quality time spent between a dad, his family and community.
LCDF Healthy Start
Thank you for the opportunity to offer our Healthy Dad’s Day Out event in Anthony, NM! We had previously offered a similar event in Las Cruces for the past 4 years, with great success! We were able to serve about 65 participants, most of which won prizes like bikes and grills!
