Prescription Drug Abuse Action Plan
Prescription drug abuse is the Nation's fastest growing drug problem. Although we must carefully balance the need to minimize abuse of pharmaceuticals with the need to maximiaze safe and legitimate access to these products, the Administration has made reducing prescription drug abuse a national priority. ONDCP's action plan, Epidemic: Responding to America’s Prescription Drug Abuse Crisis, outlines Administration effortsin four major areas including: education, monitoring, proper medication disposal, and enforcement. Increasing Security along the Southwest Border
Since the Obama Administration launched the Southwest Border initiative in March of 2009, the Federal government has devoted an unprecedented amount of personnel, technology and infrastructure to the Southwest border. Still, drug trafficking across the Southwest border still remains an acute threat to our homeland security and one of our top drug control priorities.
