The TEDS Report - Characteristics of Adolescent Heroin Admissions
Highlights: In 2007, the Treatment Episode Data Set recorded just over 1,600 adolescent substance abuse treatment admissions for heroin abuse. On average, adolescent heroin admissions were 14.8 years old when they first used heroin and 16.3 years old at admission to treatment, indicating approximately 18 months of use before entering treatment. More than half (56 percent) of adolescent heroin admissions had had at least one prior treatment episode. Other OAS publications and services The TEDS Report - -Characteristics of Adolescent Heroin Admissions, is based on SAMHSA's Drug and Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS) conducted by SAMHSA's Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health is the primary source of information on the prevalence, patterns, and consequences of drug and alcohol use and abuse in the general U.S. civilian non institutionalized population, age 12 and older. SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use & Health also provides estimates for drug use by State. |
