I'm Billie Jo Lorius, from the North Dakota National Guard, and currently I'm in Accra, Ghana, as part of a public affairs team covering Africa Endeavor. North Dakota has a state partnership with Ghana, and I have heard a lot about the country from other North Dakotans who have been able to visit. Not only have I been able to observe Ghana, but because I am participating in an exercise that brings together 35 African nations, three African organizations and two European countries. I am able to see their military culture and also watch the countries interact with one another. It has been fascinating to see their cultures, the language and to watch them come together for a common cause. One of the countries I interviewed today, is a new participating country, and he said, "Communication is everything. It is essential because it creates links between the countries. As we interact, we learn that we do have a lot in common." I couldn't agree more.
