After graduating with honors and excelling in athletics, Cynthia decided to follow in the footsteps of her role models and join the Navy. She attended medical school through the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program and has shone ever since. She has held many different positions in the Navy, a general surgery internship, OB/GYN residency, residency program director of OB/GYN, and Vice President of Recruitment and Diversity. Today, she holds the position of Special Assistant for Diversity to the Chief of Naval Operations.

Captain Macri has created innovative programs to improve student/applicant access to Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and information about military medicine, and she helped increase underrepresented minority student enrollment by 100% in two years.

She says that without the Navy, she would not have been able to attend medical school. She has been able to achieve stature in her medical specialty and is viewed as an authority on diversity education and implementation because of the opportunities she received in the Navy.
