Pet information 

General information:

Personnel traveling with pets are reminded that transportation costs for pets are not reimbursable.

U.S. carriers flying to Tokyo (Narita Airport) and Osaka (Kansai International Airport) generally charge rates from $90 to $300, depending on the size of a pet. However, during the summer season, transportation may be refused, depending on temperatures at the point of departure or arrival.

If your pets are within the kennel dimensions listed above, you should be routed via Tokyo (Narita Airport)
If your pets are larger than the kennel dimensions listed below, you should be routed via Osaka (Kansai International Airport).

Via Tokyo (Narita Airport)

When you are routed via Tokyo (Narita Airport) with your pets, you have two options;
  1. Narita -> Hiroshima Airport -> MCAS Iwakuni
  2. Narita -> Haneda -> Hiroshima Airport -> MCAS Iwakuni

1. Fly to Hiroshima Airport directly from Narita
If you are fly directly from Narita Airport to Hiroshima Airport, your arrival time at Narita Airport should be no later than 1400, because of the clearance process. This will allow you to connect with the direct code share flight into Hiroshima, departing Narita at 1725 and arriving in Hiroshima at 1900. Due to seasonal departure times, this flight sometimes departs Narita at 1900 and arrives in Hiroshima at 2035.

You should have transportation arranged from Hiroshima Airport to MCAS Iwakuni by your sponsor. Sponsors are reminded; vehicle must be large enough to accommodate passengers, bags, and kennel.
If your sponsor cannot arrange the transportation from Hiroshima Airport to MCAS Iwakuni, you have to take the shuttle bust from Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima JR train station, and take the train from Hiroshima train station to Shin-Iwakuni station.

2. Fly to Hiroshima Airport via Haneda Airport
Cost per kennel or pet is 4,000 yen. If you are traveling via Haneda from Hiroshima, you must claim your bags and kennel at Haneda airport. If you are traveling via Haneda from Narita, you must clear customs/immigrations at Narita then claim your bags and kennel.
You can take the shuttle bus from/to Haneda airport, approximately two hours transit time. The reimbursable fare is 3,000 yen for adults and 1,500 yen for children between the ages of 6-11 and those five and under occupying a seat. Kennels can be carried in your lap at no cost or you can purchase a non-reimbursable seat for 1,500 yen.

You can take the shuttle bus from/to Haneda airport, approximately two hours transit time. The reimbursable fare is 3,000 yen for adults and 1,500 yen for children between the ages of 6-11 and those five and under occupying a seat. Kennels can be carried in your lap at no cost or you can purchase a non-reimbursable seat for 1,500 yen.

Via Osaka (Kansai International Airport)

All personnel traveling with large pet kennels exceeding the dimensions listed above must arrange personal transportation via Kansai airport in Osaka. You should transportation arranged from Kansai airport to MCAS Iwakuni by your sponsor. (Sponsors are reminded; vehicle must be large enough to accommodate passengers, bags, and kennel.)
If your sponsor cannot provide the transportation from KIX, you have to take the JR train from KIX to Shin-Iwakuni via Shin-Osaka. You are allowed a maximum kennel size of 27.5 inches or 70 cm in length, width or height. Total linear dimensions cannot exceed 35.5 inches or 90 cm, and total weight cannot exceed 22 lbs or 10 kg. The cost per kennel or pet is 270 yen.
