PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 29, 2011 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Dr. Deborah Deas has been named principal of Fort Rucker Primary School, at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in the Georgia/Alabama District.

Deas has over 20 years experience as a DoDEA teacher and administrator. She has taught music, remedial reading and math, gifted education, and educational technology. While teaching, Deas was Teacher of the Year for Ft. Rucker Schools. Most recently Deas was the Instructional Support Specialist for English-Language Arts in the GA/AL District and has served as interim principal at several schools in the GA/AL District.  

"We are very excited to have Dr. Debbie Deas as our new building principal at Fort Rucker Primary School," said Mrs. Lois Rapp, Georgia/Alabama District Superintendent. "As well as being a long-time resident in the Fort Rucker community, Debbie brings high energy and enthusiasm, along with well-developed leadership skills to this position. We look forward to an outstanding year." 

Deas earned her Bachelor's Degree and her Master's Degree from University of Montevallo. She also earned additional certifications in gifted education and educational leadership at the University of Alabama, the University of Connecticut and Auburn-Montgomery. Deas graduated with highest honors with a doctorate from Auburn University. She and her husband, Gary, reside in Dothan, Alabama.
