Butts Named Principal of Wassom Middle School

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — June 27, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Acting Director and Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced that Mrs. Kimberly Butts has been named principal of Wassom Middle School at Fort Campbell, KY., in the Kentucky District.

Mrs. Butts is currently an assistant principal at Fort Campbell High School (FCHS), a position she has held since the fall of 2009.  She came to DoDEA in 1990 and taught for two years at Wassom Middle School. The remainder of her time has been spent at FCHS where she taught a number of subjects. She supervised the In School Suspension program for three years and served as an Interim Assistant Principal in School Year 2008-2009.  

“I look forward to Mrs. Butts taking the reins at Wassom Middle School,” said Dr. Frank Calvano, Kentucky District Superintendent. “Her experience and leadership abilities will be an asset to the school and the district.”

Mrs. Butts attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN., where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree with a major in English and minor in Biology, a Master’s of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Education Specialist Degree with a concentration in Secondary Education and Administration and Supervision certification.  She also completed the DoDEA Aspiring Leader’s Institute.

She and her husband, Kenneth, have three children. Oldest son, Matthew, is a graduate of the NASCAR Technical Institute and works for Detroit Speed. Daughter Mackenzie is a sophomore at Austin Peay and son Ethan is a junior in high school. They reside in Clarksville, TN.
