PEACHTREE CITY, GA — January 24, 2011 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced recently that Ms. Brenda P. Gilchrist has been named principal of Diamond Elementary School, at Fort Stewart, in the South Carolina/Fort Stewart/DoDDS-Cuba District.

Gilchrist spent the past five years as an elementary school principal – three years at Kelly Miller Elementary, one year at Fairfield Elementary schools in Fairfield County School District, S.C., and one year at Lower Lee Elementary School, Lee County School District, S.C.

“We’re very fortunate to have Brenda Gilchrist join the South Carolina/Fort Stewart/DoDDS-Cuba District,” said Dr. Samantha Ingram, the District Superintendent. “Ms. Gilchrist will be instrumental in providing focused direction and effective instructional leadership for the faculty and staff of Diamond Elementary School. Her background and experience will bring added value to our military community.”

Originally from Winnsboro, S.C., she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. She taught in elementary schools during the next four years in South Carolina and Washington, D.C. When she and her late husband moved from Washington, D.C., to Greensboro, N.C., Gilchrist earned two Master’s Degrees from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, one in reading and one in supervision and administration. She has a son and a daughter and resides in Richmond Hill, GA.
